Celebrating its 25th anniversary, The Park Gallery at Callendar House, Falkirk is staging a new exhibition by internationally-exhibited painter Marianne Greated, comprising new paintings exploring energy and excavation in the land.

The show looks at two sites: a granite quarry in Stubbeløkken on the small Danish farming island of Bornholm, where Greated’s mother is from, and the UK’s oldest oil refinery at Grangemouth, four miles from Callendar House, which ceased operations this year. The site’s structures characterise declining industry, prompting reflection on environmental responsibilities and sustainability.

An artist and researcher based in Glasgow, Greated has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally, including solo exhibitions in India, Belarus, Denmark, Greece, Spain and the UK. Following her degree at Glasgow School of Art, and Doctorate at Edinburgh College of Art, she became Head of Painting and Printmaking and Head of Fine Art at the former, and is now Head of Art at the latter. Her work focuses on key themes of equity and sustainability in society and environment, in particular the human impact on the land, intersecting her painting with science and engineering through longstanding research collaborations on the power in the land, in particular renewable energy.

A fully-illustrated catalogue accompanying the exhibition will be available from early 2026, and Marianne will be leading a free-to-enter walk and talk tour on Sat 21st Feb 11:30 – 12:30. A further event is planned as part of the popular Hippfest silent film festival, on 20th March at 10am at Callendar House, when Marianne will be giving an exclusive talk about the exhibition, revealing the stories and inspirations behind the works.
