Edinburgh Printmakers is hosting two exhibitions, with artist Jamie Fitzpatrick displaying large-scale sculptures and prints alongside Berlin-based Ukrainian printmaking duo etchingroom1 (Kristina Yarosh and Anna Khodkova).

Unexpected trip draws on Anna and Kristina’s personal experiences and imagination, creating a new body of print works that collects stories and encounters, reflecting on love and death in a whimsical collection referencing life’s hard and exciting moments. The duo exhibited at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop in 2024 and are known for their child-like illustrative style with an undercurrent of social criticism, and this display features explanatory graphs of religious systems, pagan traditions, vampiric capitalism and materialism.

Edinburgh-based painter and sculptor Jamie Fitzpatrick’s exhibition Memorials to Sausage Politics takes the comment attributed to Otto von Bismarck that if you like sausages and laws, don’t look too closely at how they are made. Fitzpatrick’s work exposes the theatrical absurdities of authority and class structures, inviting viewers in an Edinburgh full of memorials and statuary to reconsider how cultural symbols of dominance persist and seduce. The new sculptural works are displayed alongside a series of large screenprints, all exploring sculpture as a tool of civic statecraft.

Posing the question ‘how does this city want us to view ourselves?’, Fitzpatrick’s ambitious sculptures and prints take design elements sourced from existing statues and monuments around Edinburgh, filling the 8 metre-high gallery space and inviting the audience to navigate around them in an immersive experience. The commissioned sculptures have been created using techniques new to Jamie’s practice, acquired during residencies at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop and Edinburgh Printmakers.
