Edinburgh’s Talbot Rice Gallery is hosting the first survey exhibition by Céline Condorelli – a versatile London-based, internationally-exhibited artist who creates site-responsive installations, all of them related to art, architecture, design and friendship, and reflecting transformation. A number of key installations and artworks will be presented, all responding to the Talbot Rice’s unique interior spaces. A major new installation is a progression of her Zanzibar series (pictured), started in 2018 and inspired by the Brazilian modernist architect Lina Bo Bardi, which introduces a garden-like sculptural environment of sub-tropical, colonial-heritage greenery. Among other works on show are a specially-constructed playground – reflecting her fascination with the relationships of play, animated installations with audio-visuals, curtains, wallpapers, artworks made in response to the aesthetics of factory work, and a natural history series of pieces based on detailed models of exquisite undersea creatures. A catalogue will be published alongside the exhibition. Admission is free.
