Edinburgh Drawing School Gallery, Great King Street, Edinburgh
Running until the end January 2017
Open Tue – Sat 11am – 6pm, Sun & Mon by appointment
Edinburgh Drawing School’s Winter Exhibition, on until the end of January, is a chance for the general public to get a look at the work of the school’s alumni. Featuring work from many talented artists, the exhibition, spread over three rooms, is packed full of gems. From well known names like Les MacKay and Alan J Robertson to artists exhibiting their work for the first time, the pieces are universally excellent and everyone is sure to find something to their liking!
The first room, largely given over to MacKay’s work, is wonderfully atmospheric. His distinctive style and recognisable motifs are ideal for group exhibition. Hauntingly beautiful, MacKay’s pieces are incredibly compelling, presenting the viewer with peeks at quiet moments and views from empty spaces. I will certainly be keeping out for any future exhibitions featuring him. The second room, occupied by Alan J Robertson’s gorgeous pier images create just as strong at atmosphere as MacKay’s room, with lovely depiction of quiet spaces They are easy to lose yourself in and are incredibly relaxing, conjuring images of long walks in the glens.
The exhibition is filled with wonderful, affordable works by rising talents and is a brilliant opportunity to purchase some pieces from Scotland’s next big thing! Keep an eye out for the beautiful images of Edinburgh in the connecting corridor, my personal favourites from the exhibition! Running until the end of January don’t miss out on a chance to see something a little bit different at the Edinburgh Drawing School!
