Compass Gallery in Glasgow is showing an exhibition of the work of Anna H. Geerdes, whose work comes from a post-Covid place of questioning. Like many people in the creative arts, the crisis caused a massive shift in reality and stability for Anna, which has led her to seek a way forward with some apprehension and, as she puts it, ‘an edge of uncertainty that mirrors the unpredictability and disruption of the world’. This poses questions which are reflected in this body of work: What to do? Where to look? Why painting?

In her search for answers, these new paintings have evolved. Landscape is the main subject, but there are areas of disruption, disturbance in the logic of perspective and sometimes unexpected intrusions of other places or different times.
