The 2021 exhibition and talk programme at Edinburgh’s The Nomads Tent continues with its Weavings of Afghanistan exhibition, which is very timely given the current throes this complex and beautiful country is enduring, celebrating the country’s centuries-old weaving culture, from its valleys and mountains, showcasing contemporary, traditional and natural floor coverings with rugs, kilims and cushions celebrating the rich variety of Afghan weaving, which has prevailed through decades of uncertainty. Five per cent of all purchases of Afghan goods during this three week event will go towards Mercy Corps and their work both in Afghanistan and elsewhere. Two talks will support the exhibition – on 27th October Michael McKean will be speaking about the work of Mercy Corps in Afghanistan, and on 4th November the photographer and writer Warwick Ball will speak about his time in the country, and its influence far and near. Both talks will take place at 6pm.
