A new show at Graystone Gallery, Edinburgh features over thirty works by five emerging contemporary artists whose work challenges visual preconceptions.

A winner of the 2022 Glenfiddich Residency Prize, Swedish landscape artist Fanny Arnesen’s interpretation of trees and forests invite us to peer into a hidden and tantalising world.

Currently working for Antony Gormley at his Hexham foundry, sculptor Rachel Blackwell is inspired by archaeology, ecology, geology, mysticism, folk practices and ritual.

Having studied mathematics and physics, Kinga Elliott, whose work is pictured at top, uses forms borrowed from science as a starting point for her complex, abstract paintings. Multi-disciplinary artist Ruby Lord combines digital media and oil paint to create colourful distortions, and, recently awarded the Royal Scottish Academy’s John Kinross scholarship to travel to Florence, Lizzie Lilley, whose work is pictured below, works around the slow abstraction of photographic images, focusing on colour and texture.

On Saturday 6th April 2pm – 4pm, there will be an artists’ talk event with Fanny Arnesen and Rachel Blackwell talking about their work.
The Gallery supports the Own Art finance scheme, which makes purchasing artworks more affordable through payment by instalments.
