Following its major centenary exhibition last year, Visual Arts Scotland (VAS) is mounting Scotland’s biggest showcase of art and craft. The Thread That Pulls, at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh, features more than 420 works by 340-plus artists across all art disciplines, from painting, sculpture and photography to textiles, ceramics and furniture-making.

The works on display were selected from 2,800 submissions from artists and makers all over Scotland, plus work from across the UK, continental Europe and North America – the biggest show ever hosted by VAS, which is the leading platform in Scotland for visual art and contemporary craft, with over 1,300 members at all stages of their careers.

Following its centenary last year, the organisation was restructured and became a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation. It’s now one of the largest artist-run organisations in Scotland, with a vibrant, active and participatory membership, providing platforms to support and connect its members, epitomised by the prestigious Annual Exhibition, which is open to members and non-members.
