In an unconventional and subtle counterbalance to his urban roots, Glasgow School of Art graduate and multi-media artist Antony Lucchesi explores the rural landscape in an exhibition at Cairn Gallery in Pittenweem. Obscured Landscapes follows Antony’s year-long Youth Arts bursary programme at Cove Park on Scotland’s west coast, and showcases his unusual technique of transferring images to thermal receipt paper, which is left to fade over time in sunlight, with the partially-deteriorated images converted to digital file and printed on Japanese semi-translucent paper; what emerges conjures a delicate evocation of place, with the fragmentation by light over time playing a part in the pieces, which range from half-postcard to large poster size – a counterbalance to conventional Scottish landscape depictions, and to many city-dwellers’ experience of the rural environment.

Antony has exhibited recently at the RSA’s New Contemporaries exhibition, and has collaborated with Glasgow Print Studio on the works and with Good Press on an accompanying booklet, which are on show (by appointment only) at Cairn Gallery in the characterful fishing village of Pittenweem, Fife.
