Burnside gallery & frames in Selkirk in the Scottish Borders is showing recent work by Val Menon, who explores links with the works of poets who were deeply concerned with the changing landscape over two hundred years ago, as is she today. A keenly observational artist, Val has been hiking to elevated points to observe, draw and paint the peaks and North West coastal landscape from a new perspective.
Val says, ‘Returning visits to the West Coast have brought me closer to understanding the more you know something, the more it gives out.’
Also included in the exhibition are extracts from the poets and writers who have helped her feel her way through the development of her paintings. Based in Edinburgh, where she has a studio, she has been exhibiting her work since 1989, and has work held by private collections and the NHS.
