Edinburgh International Science FestivalTake a closer look at your food at this year’s Edinburgh International Science Festival, which opens on 5 April For the first time there’s a separate foodie festival – GastroFest which will showcase the importance of science in our food. Bringing together producers, artisans, scientists and chefs, the events cover everything from the neuroscience and psychology of taste perception to slow food and cutting-edge molecular cocktails.

You can discover the science of intoxication at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party; foods with science secrets at the Feast of the Commonwealth gala dinner and experience a theatrical evening of sensory dining. Edinburgh-based food pioneers Jelly & Gin promise “scrumptious installations that will both confuse and delight your senses”.
