Derek Robertson & Fiona Clucas‘ new exhibition at the Scottish Ornithologists’ Club in Aberlady presents work by two established landscape and wildlife artists demonstrating the breadth of their work in subject matter and media, including oil, watercolour and gouache paintings, as well as charcoal drawings.

A member of the Society of Wildlife Artists, Fiona Clucas is inspired by her Cumbria surroundings as well in the Lake District and Scotland. She paints both in the field, in particular at Leighton Moss, depicting the birdlife and flora of the marshland in different seasons, light and weather, and in her own wild garden. Her large studio drawings are a reflection of magical moments experienced in the wild as she tries to capture the spirit of a place and the wildlife which inhabits them.

One of Scotland’s foremost wildlife artists and himself a member of the Scottish Ornithologists Club, Derek Robertson has exhibited at its Waterston House gallery many times. In this exhibition he presents work from different series inspired by diverse habitats such as the Isle of May, Skye and the Tay Reedbeds in Perthshire. A respected amateur ornithologist and bird-ringer whose notes and studies have been published in several scientific journals, he is also presenting pieces from his book project Bho Bheul an Eòin, which created Gaelic names for species of animals and plants newly established in Scotland.
