There are two exhibitions to enjoy at the Scottish Arts Club in Edinburgh. Influenced by the Scottish artist Mary Armour (1902-2000), who trained at Glasgow School of Art in the early 20th century, Judith Bell: Modern Still Life – Shapes and Colours features a selection of paintings incorporating elements of classic still life with a fresh, contemporary colour palette. Also showing is Alfons Bytautas RSA: Prospect, in which he combines an abstract approach to painting and drawing with his love of collage, saying: ‘Collage encourages me to adopt an irrational approach to image-making, welcoming chance and accident as sources of inspiration. I work with painted papers (much as Matisse did) as well as printed sources and lots of glue!’
