Showing at Greenock’s Beacon Arts Centre, the paintings, prints and sculptures by Jim Ramsay use a variety of methods, including vitreous enamel (glass powder fused to sheet steel at over 800?), a material from which transport signage used to be made.

The exhibition’s title, Accidental Transport, refers to a term found in a botanical glossary describing the movement of substances within a plant. In order to survive, a plant transports nutrients, water and minerals through its tissues and cells. This automatic process is a metaphor for the way Jim Ramsay makes artwork, pulling or moving parts of paintings around the whole to create interesting images.
