18th January – 29th March

Glasgow’s The Tramway is hosting an exhibition by France-Lise McGurn (born 1983), a Glasgow-based painter who creates layered installations that incorporate the gallery’s walls, floors and ceilings. Her paintings and wall drawings evoke bodies and limbs overlapping and interacting in varied and uncertain settings, giving rise to the term In Emotia, suggesting a state of being, simultaneously emotional and in motion, with various forms and gestures.

The way the works overlap from canvas to wall to floor helps to create an energetic dynamic, with swift brushstrokes and repeated marks creating loose associations about place and relationships, and the fluid lines of the paintings are translated into an additional series of mobile sculptural forms fabricated from neon.
