The Scottish Ornithologists’ Club is celebrating its reopening with a joint exhibition by three UK artists inspired by close observation of animals in the wild. John Threlfall (pastel drawings) and Esther Tyson (oil paintings) focus on wildlife in the northeast of Scotland and the Cairngorms respectively, while Simon Griffiths (ceramic sculptures) takes inspiration from the countryside around him in County Durham, in England. Through many hours spent outdoors observing and sketching, all three aim to capture the liveliness of wild animals in their environment. A new series of screenprints has been produced by Esther to mark the exhibition, editions of which are on sale in the gallery’s shop.
Based on the edge of the Aberlady Bay Local Nature Reserve in East Lothian, the Scottish Ornithologists’ Club is a charity promoting the study, protection and enjoyment of birds in Scotland.
