When word reached the Artmag Food and Travel Treats team, that the AGA Shop was sponsoring our galleries’ map in the magazine and online, it seemed an unusual alliance but then we realised that actually it was very cunning. In kitchen culture, Aga does have a rather iconic status – it certainly says something about you if you own one. Here at the blog, we all eat a lot and although we’re always interested in the provenance of the ingredients, we think less often about how things are prepared. On top of that, I have to admit I’m an Aga “virgin” and have never cooked on one.
In fact, the only time I can remember that I know I’ve had something prepared on an AGA was at a school friend’s farmhouse in Perthshire in my teens. The memory is of hastening back from a rain-drenched walk, sure that the warm kitchen would welcome us before we tucked into our hearty dinner from the big black cooker. The AGA Shop team have decided I need to update this old memory and try out the real thing myself at one of their getting-to-know-an-AGA sessions. Check back next month, to read how my first date with an AGA goes. Will it be an “AGA saga” or a real “pot boiler”? AGA Shop, 51 Frederick Street, Edinburgh, EH2 1LH. Tel 0131 225 7293.
