Edinburgh’s Rafiki Gallery has announced an exhibition, Abstract Zeitgeist, at the city’s Biscuit Factory, featuring fifteen emerging artists employing an abstract style in their work. Based around the UK, the selected artists were all trained at Scottish art institutions. The word Zeitgeist, meaning the spirit of an age, is the theme, with each artist either directly or indirectly reacting to their own experiences, thoughts, and emotions in their work, and the show seeks to celebrate the unique voices of these artists, offering an alternative angle on contemporary culture to the the online world, with strong evidence of the artists’ attachment to mark-making itself – an elemental component of human development through history.

The list of exhibiting artists comprises Jacob Littlejohn, Annalisa Merrilees, Hannah Ustun, Eve McGlynn, Siobhan McLaughlin, Sophia Pauley, Lorna Sinclair, Lynsey Mackenzie, Lola Stong Brett (whose work is pictured), Rowan Rosie, Louis Lisle, Hannah Benassi, Neil Kellas, Sophie Fairfaw, and David Iain Brown.
