From his beginnings as a slab boy at Stoddard’s carpet factory in Paisley, to becoming one of the elder statesmen of Scottish arts, the visual artist, playwright and polymath John Byrne continues to work into his ninth decade. This first retrospective of his work for more than two decades is an opportunity to see how his remarkable career has evolved, from a designer of book covers and record sleeves to a painter and writer. As an artist he has used the self-portrait form all his life. This show includes over 40 of them, taken from across his career. Admission is via the Kelvingrove’s website.
