Robert Mach’s punningly-titled The Perfect Foil at the Stirling Smith Art Gallery & Museum in Stirling demonstrates how he transforms everyday objects, such as broken frames, discarded bits of decor and found objects, into the extraordinary by applying familiar confectionery wrappers, by reusing the material. These unexpected pairings result in fantastical figures of nostalgia and awe.
Mach’s work has featured at London’s Royal Academy and Royal Scottish Academy and he has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally. In addition to his solo work, he often joins forces with other artists and this exhibition includes his first major collaboration with his brother David and the second in a series of vases created with ceramicist Simon Ward.
