Scotland’s multi award-winning festival of light, SPECTRA, is returning to Aberdeen in February. Inspired by the theme of ‘Connections’, the festival will feature the return of popular creative duo Heinrich & Palmer with a special new installation at Aberdeen Art Gallery, charting the maritime history of the Granite City, and landmarks including Union Terrace Gardens, Remembrance Hall and Marischal College will host striking free artworks for all ages.

As usual there will be immersive, interactive installations including Squidsoup’s Submergence and Affinity from Amigo & Amigo – both at Union Terrace Gardens, and Illumaphonium’s Continuum, which dazzled Spectra audiences in 2022, this time transforming Broad Street. And among other highlights, the Gallery’s Remembrance Hall will feature Butterfly Dream, a luminously beautiful installation by artist Anne Bennett.

The festival is organised in partnership with the EU’s Creative Europe programme, Aberdeen City Council, Creative Scotland, and the University of Aberdeen.

Affinity, an immersive installation by Amigo & Amigo, will light up Union Terrace Gardens
