The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh presents The Lover, an adaptation of the semi-autobiographical novel by Marguerite Duras, which details her seductive and exotic love affair with a 27-year-old wealthy Chinese heir in French colonial Vietnam in 1929. Published fifty-five years after the affair, this passionate and provocative story became one of the most acclaimed and widely read books of modern French literature, was awarded the 1984 Prix Goncourt, and was adapted to film in 1992.
