Printmaking at Fidra Fine Art in Gullane sets out to illustrate the endless possibilities artists discover when they set out to make an original print, whether an etching, linocut, monoprint, lithograph or screenprint, through the work of seven leading contemporary Scottish printmakers: Georgina Bown, Alfons Bytautas, June Carey, Hetty Haxworth, Henry Jabbour, Robert Powell and Jane Walker.

Gallery owner Alan Rae says there is a popular misconception that artists’ prints are photographic copies of paintings. He explains, ‘Original prints are distinct artworks. They are not reproductions of other artworks. The end result is achieved through rigorous technical and creative processes and is as imagined – and intended – by the artist. Buying original prints is a great way to start an art collection. They offer affordable access to the work of artists who might otherwise be out of reach.’

As well as showing the work by living artists, Alan has selected a group of well-known Scottish artists who made their name last century, including John Bellany, John Houston, Ian Fleming RSA RSW and Stanley Cursiter CBE RSA RSW.
