Originally opened in 1939, the lovely Art-Déco Birks Cinema in Aberfeldy was saved, after a period of decline common to small-town picture houses in the 1980s, by a dedicated group of cinephiles, including Aberfeldy native Alan Cumming.

Reopened in 2013 after a major renovation, it is now a hive of activity with a full season of screenings from New York’s Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera, Royal Ballet (pictured), National Theatre, Berlin Philharmoniker, and the complete series of Exhibition on Screen, including Cézanne: Portraits of a Life (pictured) on 4th December, and a full programme of independent world cinema as well as the latest Hollywood blockbusters.
