The University of Edinburgh’s Talbot Rice Gallery has announced its 2021 programme, beginning with The Normal, an exhibition developed in response to the ‘wake-up call’ of Covid-19, bringing together a world-wide roster of artists who, as the gallery puts it, ‘are attuned to this singular moment in history’. Ideas explored include the planet’s health, progress, communities and new ways of working prompted by the pandemic, offering an international perspective on the urgent need to rethink our relationship to the biosphere we inhabit. Looking at how laws, histories and communities are entangled with viruses, ecosystems and each other, it brings into focus the role that art plays in envisaging new possibilities and relationships. Featured artists include Amy Balkin, Anca Benera and Arnold Estefan, Boyle Family, Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg and Sascha Pohflepp, Gabrielle Goliath, Femke Herregraven, Jarsdell Solutions Ltd, Kahlil Joseph, Tonya McMullan, Sarah Rose and James Webb.
