Featuring a series of paintings exploring themes of military, social and political conflict, Life During Wartime at Summerhall is artist John Keane’s first ever exhibition in Scotland. Keane was the Imperial War Museum’s official artist for the Gulf War of 1990-91. He has also addressed the post-9/11 rise of global terrorism, the consequences of wars waged in distant locations and the blow-back of terrorism that this has fostered closer to home.

While emphasising the primacy of painting, Keane’s working process also embraces digital technology and inkjet printing. He has exhibited internationally and his works are in many public and private collections, including the Imperial War Museum, Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art and Aberdeen Art Gallery.
