Showing at Burnside Gallery & Frames in Selkirk, a selection of oils and mixed media works concerns itself with humans’ relationship to plants and animals. Both artists draw in order to know and understand their subject and have created delicately affecting pictures which quietly put the case for appreciating and preserving wildness.

For this exhibition, Finnish artist Minna Lilljakku has drawn and painted wild deer in Nuuksio National Park, adding ancient Finnish symbols and her own symbolic colours and emblems and layering the pictures using ink, watercolour and printing.

Using oil, beeswax and gesso, Kate Hajducka, whose work is pictured, draws plants in their landscape, allowing the qualities of the paint to express the forms and atmospheres of each one and building up layers to capture the colour relationship between them.
