Part of the Festival of Architecture 2016, The Vital Art at Stirling Smith Museum & Art Gallery celebrates the artistic skills and visual sensitivities that architect-artists develop during their training and practice. As seen in work by members if the Scottish Society of Architect Artists (SSAA), architects’ approach to design is informed by sculpture, stone carving and photography, as well as drawing and painting. Exhibits include paintings by Dr Trish Cain RGI, which capture complex construction on-site at the Zaha Hadid-designed Riverside Museum Glasgow, a unique concept drawing of ‘The Kelpies’ by sculptor Andy Scott and original, hand-drawn design images for the Scottish Parliament building.
