The Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock is mounting an exhibition by Susan Harvey, who studied at Glasgow School of Art in Printed Textiles Department and went on to gain a Masters London’s Royal College of Art. Susan grew up in Greenock and spent much time in Gordon Wyllie’s art department in the town’s Academy, gaining his encouragement to study art further. Susan describes the theme of the work on display as ‘mutable meeting points of time and place. I work with subject matter that reflects my awareness of the fragility and transience of life and the importance of respecting it: the presence of the sea, its cyclical ebb and flow: plant and bird imagery, symbolic of our own mortality’.

Her life-long visits to Iona have proved to be a long-standing source of inspiration, and she has exhibited widely in Scotland and the UK and worked for many years as a university lecturer in Art and Design across the country. Add to that, she worked as a designer with Mary Quant, having met her when she won a Royal Society of Arts award at Glasgow School of Art. All works are for sale.
