The Society of Scottish Artists (SSA) is celebrating contemporary art in Scotland with its 126th Annual Exhibition, at the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh.

The Society’s Annual Exhibition is one of the largest contemporary art exhibitions in Scotland, produced and supported entirely by artists and with no public funding. It remains committed to bringing international and local artists together, and enriching the country’s creative culture, providing a platform for diverse perspectives.

This year’s display showcases twelve New Graduates awards, from five of Scotland’s art schools, alongside recipients of the SSA’s Awards and International partnerships, including this year’s recipient of the bi-annual Eichstätt Lithography Residency, Joanne Pemberton, and SSA Award-winners Niamh Coutts and Hans K Clausen.

One interesting aspect is the Society’s continued collaboration with Engramme, in Quebec, whereby an SSA member will be given the chance of a solo exhibition at Engramme, with one of the latter’s artists given the opportunity to exhibit in the SSA Annual Exhibition: this year’s SSA member was Jodi Le Bigre, while Engramme artist Cynthia Dinan-Mitchell will be exhibiting her new work.

Also showing will be pieces submitted in response to an open-call which attracted almost 2,000 submissions, plus a showing of the 30×30 series of small works, offering visitors the opportunity to purchase original works by SSA members, at affordable prices.
