Scotland’s multi award-winning festival of light, SPECTRA, is returning to Aberdeen in February; inspired by the theme of ‘Home’, it promises a spectacular return to locations across the city centre, including, for the first time since 2018, the newly-renovated Union Terrace Gardens.

Highlights will include Fantastic Planet, by Australian group Parer Studio, making its first Scottish appearance, which will see towering humanoid figures descend on city centre locations, including the Gardens, Aberdeen Art Gallery and Marischal College. Immersive installations include Pulse, from Bristol-based This is Loop, which will transform Broad Street with a spectacular 45-metre long light sculpture, and Illumaphonium, consisting of more than two hundred illuminated chime bars, promising a fun and spontaneous outdoor music-making experience. Newly-commissioned projected work will light up landmarks around the city, including His Majesty’s Theatre.

The festival is organised in partnership with the EU’s Creative Europe programme, Aberdeen City Council, Creative Scotland, and the University of Aberdeen.
