Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening Sale in New York in on 30th June will comprise works by many of the most celebrated post-war and contemporary artists, centred around a group of abstract masterpieces from the collection of Harry W. and Mary Margaret Anderson, including exceptional paintings by Clyfford Still, Richard Diebenkorn and Mark Rothko, and a definitive Roy Lichtenstein Brushstroke painting from 1965, expected to fetch between $20-30 million.
More than 450 works from the celebrated collection of Ginny Williams will be auctioned through a series of sales during 2020, beginning with a dedicated evening auction of nearly 50 items in New York on 29th June. A pioneering collector and gallerist born in rural Virginia in 1927, Williams was a larger-than-life personality and dynamic force in the contemporary art and photographs communities in Denver, Colorado, where she lived and worked from the late-1950s onwards, as well as on the East Coast, including her time on the boards of the Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington DC.
