Solas Festival 2017
June 23 – 25
At The Bield, Blackruthven, Perth
As festival season bites across the country it’s good to see a more thoughtful and soulful approach to outdoor frolics. Solas, the midsummer celebration of music and the arts pitches up in The Bield at Blackruthven in Perth. Hailed as Scotland’s most family-friendly festival, the organisers have pulled together a lively programme featuring music, discussion, literature, film, dance and theatre.
Performances include novelist James Kelman reading from his new novel to a bluesy backdrop supplied by the Dirt Roadsters while the Noyam African Dance Institute present a one-off International Premiere of a new piece. Elsewhere the kiddies get entertained by enchanting puppet shows, storytellers and children’s yoga (!)
Music includes Ricky Ross, Rab Noakes, Pronto Mama and the Little Kicks. The talks and debates are presented by guests like Lesley Riddoch, David Greig, Ross Greer and Andy Whiteman. There’s also room for a full movie programme, Gaelic foraging, Shetlandic translation, workshops, a gospel choir, den making, crafts, dance classes and more yoga.
A packed line-up for a fab festival that caters to all the senses and more.
