Glasgow’s arts organisation The Common Guild has announced a new series of audio commissions by six artists – a continuation of its In the open project. Where the first series featured artists based in Glasgow, this time the series extends to international locations, with six artists based elsewhere in the UK and Europe: Ayo Akingbade (London), Rosa Barba (Berlin), Mikhail Karikis (Lisbon), Tarik Kiswanson (Paris), Lawrence Lek (London), and Cally Spooner (Turin). Each provides a distinctive perspective on her/his particular situation, and as before, the audio works have been designed for headphones, to accompany daily walks and time spent outdoors, thus offering a way of connecting with others at a time when we have been feeling separation through the pandemic and Britain’s departure from the European Union.

The new audio works will be released between January and April 2021, taking the form of field recordings, found and manipulated sound, scripted performance, dialogue, and musical composition, offering transportive acoustic soundscapes, relational spaces, intimate exchanges, shared moments of pause, and the opportunity to step away from our screens.
