Known for his depictions of landscapes, Yorkshire-based artist and printmaker Brian Hindmarch is showing some of his work reflecting the inspiration he has drawn from wayside walks in Scotland, Ireland and the Yorkshire Dales – particularly locations associated with literature.

The uplands and lowlands of the river Tweed are examples, whose woods, sea, hills and watery places, so evident in this region, are described evocatively by author John Buchan. These ‘waysides’ are a source of inspiration to Brian, who has produced drawings, paintings, photographs and studies which then serve to be transformed into etchings and drypoint prints – he has a long career in printing.

The results gesture to special locations, often unseen on main scenic routes.
