Until 31st October

The theme of the 31st Scottish International Storytelling Festival is Beyond Words – a celebration of the shared experiences of old traditions and new connections in music, dance and story.

With closely-interwoven identities and histories, Canada and Scotland are the focus, in this UN International Year of Indigenous Languages, with First Nation and Scottish tradition-bearers sharing their stories, dances and songs, alongside contemporary narratives of exile, migration and cultural displacement that call for understanding and healing in our fractured world.

While invited guests perform in Edinburgh with their Scottish compatriots, there are touring and communities programmes, encouraging grassroots storytelling in the community, and pioneering the importance of storytelling to build inter-cultural bridges.

The Festival has workshops allowing opportunity for creative exploration, and the final days of the Festival will lead up to the Feast of Samhuinn, in accordance with Celtic tradition.
