Scottish Ensemble returns to the stage in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Inverness for the first time since the pandemic with Common Sound, an hour-long event combining music and discussion exploring the importance of live performance, in which audiences are invited to take an active part by sharing thoughts, insights and inspiration.

Asking the question ‘Why is live music important?’, Scottish Ensemble performers will team up with 6 Music DJ and psychotherapist Nemone Metaxas to share their views on what it is about being in the same room as other people who are all seeing and hearing the same thing which elevates the quality and impact of a performance. Carefully devised sets of music, including tracks by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw and minimalist music pioneer Steve Reich, will create an absorbing listening experience for mind and body, accompanied by a specially developed atmospheric lighting design. The Edinburgh performance will be live-streamed via Mixcloud (audio only). Venues are Edinburgh’s Assembly Roxy, Glasgow’s Cottiers Theatre, Dundee’s Marryat Hall and Eden Court Theatre in Inverness.
