Having been forced in its 50th anniversary year to abandon many of its concerts in Scotland and further afield due to the Covid lockdown, the Scottish Ensemble has responded with some imaginative projects, including its Musical Book Club series featuring discussions with contemporary composers and commentators on engaging musical subjects. In connection with its 29th July discussion on the ‘deep-listening’ concepts of the late American composer Pauline Oliveros (1932 – 2016), the Ensemble has launched Tumbling Song – a collaborative, experimental project open to the public, based on Oliveros’ instructions for a piece of music – one of her Sonic Meditations series from 1971. Audio submissions are invited until 19th August, which the Ensemble will compile for subsequent performance.
