Highlights of the Winter/Spring programme by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra include the return of Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto to Scotland for a three-concert residency, including the world premiere of a new work by Karine Polwart and Pippa Murphy, musical travels to America, Estonia, France, Italy and Latvia with pieces by Bernstein, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Milhaud, Maderna and Vasks, the SCO Chorus and the SCO reuniting after two years for Handel’s Messiah, Vaughan Williams’ Flos campi and the world premiere of The Years by SCO Associate Composer Anna Clyne, and digital projects such as performances of Stravinsky’s Pulcinella, a Mendelssohn Weekend festival featuring Nicola Benedetti (pictured), and new pieces by three emerging composers inspired by the art of storytelling.
The next concert will be Anoushka Shankar and Qawwali Project (Fri 28th Jan) at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall – alongside a selection of solo pieces, Anoushka Shankar revisits her father Ravi’s Concerto No 3 for sitar and orchestra.
