The Scottish Chamber Orchestra continues its current season with The Dream, featuring Mendelssohn’s ‘Italian’ Symphony, celebrating the blue skies and radiant sunshine he encountered in that country, and musical evocations of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1st – 3rd March, Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow).

Next up is Folk Inspirations with Pekka, in which Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto (pictured) performs Janácek’s Kreutzer Sonata and Sibelius’s Symphony No. 3 and is joined by the American neo-folk singer/songwriter Sam Amidon in arrangements of Appalachian folk songs (9th – 10th March, Edinburgh and Glasgow).

Kuusisto also features in Les Illuminations, in which he is joined by tenor Allan Clayton in Britten’s work of the same name set to the phantasmagorical verse of French poet Arthur Rimbaud, along with work by Nico Muhly (including the Scottish premiere of his beautiful violin concerto Shrink) and Haydn’s Symphony No. 104 in D (15th – 17th March, St Andrews, Edinburgh and Glasgow).
