In a fascinating and premium-quality display, National Treasure: The Scottish Modern Arts Association at City Art Centre, Edinburgh, tells the story of an association set up in 1907, when the National Galleries of Scotland was not collecting or showing work by living artists, by artists and art-lovers to collect Scotland’s contemporary art and promote it at home and abroad. The Association continued to purchase work until it was disbanded in the early 1960s, building a remarkable collection, most of which is now in the care of the City of Edinburgh. Highlights will be shown in what promises to be a spectacular two-floor exhibition, including works by the Scottish Colourists, the Glasgow Boys, William McTaggart, Anne Redpath, Joan Eardley and others.
