Dominique Cameron: Up With The Larks at Fidra Fine Art, Gullane, is a selection of over thirty new artworks offering a fresh perspective of Scotland’s diverse landscape. Taking viewers on a journey by train, car and foot, from the fishing port of Peterhead (the most easterly point of the Scottish mainland) to Ardnamurchan Lighthouse (Scotland’s most westerly point), the exhibition takes its name from the title of a song by Scottish band The Pearlfishers, which refers to Cameron’s own curiosity and enthusiasm for getting up early and setting off on a journey around the highways and byways of Scotland, not to mention the encounters she has along the way.

She says, ‘From drawing on the train and the rhythm of the train on the tracks making my pencil jump and jiggle to visiting a friend in Inverclyde who has an amazing collection of sculptures by George Wyllie, I drew inspiration from all sorts of unexpected places. Along the way I drew and painted landscapes as well as the people inhabiting them. The more I looked, the more I caught glimpses of life in the raw.’
