Marking its move to a new site in Glasgow’s Laurieston district, Patricia Fleming Gallery presents a new exhibition by Sara Barker. Watch Movements is her first solo exhibition in Glasgow for six years, and is a unique response to this distinctive Victorian building, before the Gallery was fully renovated. Manchester-born and now a lecturer at Glasgow School of Art, Barker has exhibited around the UK, and for this exhibition developed a new compositional approach, with sets of tiles dug out of walls and combined with rubble, paint, foil, and other materials, bound with poured mortar inside a frame, turning mundane building materials into jewel-like slabs or tableaux. These can be seen as paintings, spatial drawings, bas-reliefs, or cross-sections of miniature excavations, with some having been inserted back into the gaps created by their initial removal.
