RSA Lower Galleries, Edinburgh
Exhibition continues until August 30
Open Monday to Saturday 10am – 5pm, Sunday 12 – 5pm
The RSA Open Exhibition is undoubtedly an Edinburgh institution. Having been a part of the RSA Annual Exhibition for over 180 years, it now occupies it’s own space in the RSA’s packed exhibition calendar. Showcasing the best in unique collectible art, the exhibition creates a fantastic opportunity for artists from both within Scotland and the world to display and sell their work in an internationally renowned space. This year’s exhibition is no exception, with over 400 pieces on display chosen from an open submission.
The selection of art on display is incredibly impressive with representatives of almost every media from printmaking to mixed media sculpture installations. Every piece displayed is available for purchase and the gallery sales desk staff are hugely knowledgable about all of their display pieces. Split across the entirety of the lower galleries of the RSA on the Mound, the exhibition is large in scale and scope. Spanning across two large rooms and two of the galleries octagons.
Highlights include the wonderfully detailed and eye catching “Rearranged, with Quiet Waterfalls Between” by Mark Lawrence, a thoroughly modern patronage style price and the intriguing “Hanging Garden Pylon”by Andrea Geile, a sculpture contained under a glass dome which, as the first thing one sees when one enters the exhibition, sets a fantastic precedent for the rest of the display!
The exhibition is free to view and runs until the 30th of August. The gallery opens Monday to Saturday 10-5 and 12-5 on Sundays. If you haven’t already been to see it, head down now before it’s too late!
