Royal Scottish Academy: SSA | VAS Open

Barry McGlashan - Burning Boat Painting, Oil on canvas

Until 30th January

Now in its second year, the SSA|VAS Open is the combined annual exhibition by the Society of Scottish Artists and Visual Arts Scotland, two of Scotland’s leading arts organisations, bringing together the best in contemporary art and design at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh.

More than 150 artists and designers have been selected – in painting, sculpture, printmaking, installation, performance, moving image, furniture and jewellery – following a series of open calls which attracted more than 2,500 entries from around the world.

With no public funding, the exhibition has been produced and supported entirely by artists, showcasing some of the most exciting work by both societies’ members, and bringing powerful international artwork to Edinburgh audiences.
