Born in France, David Michie OBE RSA was the son of architect-painter James Michie and celebrated artist Anne Redpath and enjoyed a distinguished career drawing, painting and teaching, in Scotland and abroad, earning his OBE in 1997.

After his death in 2015, his family gifted 22 paintings, over 100 sketchbooks, prints and numerous studio objects and photographs to the Royal Scottish Academy‘s Collection, many of which are available to view and purchase in an online viewing room, having assisted the Academy in documenting the life of one its most distinguished alumni.
