Michael Clark, 'San Marco', oil on linen

Roger Billcliffe Gallery Glasgow: Michael Clark – Paintings from France and Venice

Online until 31st Jul. Gallery re-opens 5th Aug Wed, Thu, Fri 10am – 4pm, open by appointment outwith these times.

Scotland’s largest private art gallery, the Roger Billcliffe Gallery in Glasgow, is showing an online exhibition celebrating painter Michael Clark‘s enduring relationship with France and Italy. As described by Nia Clark, ‘His lilac shadows, burnt umber and dusky pink evoke the hazy glow of summer evenings. A flash of ochre or an untainted cyan sky are reflective of the hot sun. Viewing his work, I can smell the delights the market has to offer, a palette of sweet French abricots and a braid of rose tinted garlic. His paintings depict life kissed by the restorative power of the sun and a chilled bottle of wine waiting to be shared among friends.’
