Currently online only, the Fraser Gallery in St Andrews has a series of Robert MacMillan landscapes showing. Macmillan has developed a reputation as one of Scotland’s foremost figurative painters, reconciling traditional working methods with a experimental approach, managing to bring an emotional intensity to his pictures via his meticulous layered technique, imparting a luminous depth. A graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, the gallery describes Robert’s focus as on single figured portraits, greatly influenced by the old masters. He was shortlisted for the Aspect Painting Prize in 2008, and is widely exhibited and collected.
