A retrospective of the life and work of Marjorie Campbell, née Anderson, is on view at Edinburgh’s Dundas Street Gallery. Born in China in 1936, Marjorie grew up in Edinburgh, where she developed her artistic talents, depicting scenes from Scottish holidays, aided by keen powers of observation and a particular sensitivity to nature’s forms. She gained experience in materials and techniques which gave expression in her art to her personal experience, and became a painter, illustrator, teacher, lecturer, quilter, photographer, and designer for copper-wheel engraving on glass, all in tandem with family life. Prolific but rarely completely satisfied with her work, this exhibition showcases many works that were relegated to loft space during her lifetime, and following her death twenty-two years ago, others have taken on the task of revealing the full extent of her important contribution to Scottish art. At the exhibition, copies of the book Marjorie Campbell, a life in pictures will be on sale, along with postcards and posters.
