Edinburgh-based artist Andrew Radford has always doodled, scribbled and collaged, taking inspiration from found and discarded objects, and making art from rummaging through skips, visiting flea markets and junk shops and picking-up items on his travels.

This exhibition continues that pattern, established in his Found Frame, Lost and Found and Found Objects series, in which he re-purposes packaging previously destined for landfill or recycling by shaping, colouring and burnishing objects down to a simplified pattern and depth that belies their original states.

This display – Radford’s first public gallery exhibition – derives its name from the fact that the exhibits, created over years and stored in boxes in the artist’s home, have now been taken ‘outside the box’. All artworks are available to view on Upright Gallery’s website (see left).
